The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), weekend, sensitised farmers and owners of small, medium enterprises (SMEs) in Kogi on how to assess its N250 billion credit facilities to boost their farming and business activities.
The acting director, corporate communications department of CBN, Mr Isaac Okorafor, who spoke in Lokoja at a two-day sensitisation workshop, said the apex bank has designed various loan packages to empower the ‘pro-poor’ at the grassroots in order to grow the nation’s economy.
He urged farmers and small scale business owners in the state to form cooperatives and meet criteria stipulated by the CBN to enable them access the loans which attracts single digit interest rate of 9%.
A participant, Mr Emmanuel Oladipo, who lauded the initiative, appealed to the CBN to prevail on commercial banks not to make process of accessing the loans cumbersome.
Participants at the workshop were amongst others sensitised on the need to embrace mobile banking/payment services and desist from the abuse of bank notes and circulation of counterfeit currency notes.
