#KogiDecides: Electorates Urged Not to Vote for Candidates With Expansionist Tendencies

Electorates in Kogi State have been advised to be careful so as not to vote for a candidate who will ceed power to an individual with expansionist tendencies.

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, gave the advise when Peoples Democratic Party Critical Stakeholders from Yagba Federal Constituency, met in Mopa to strategize ahead the forthcoming governorship election, scheduled for November.

Awoniyi described the PDP as a party that would win overwhelmingly in the forth coming governorship election, said the party has what it takes to meet the yearning and aspiration of the people.

The Deputy Governor, who was the convener of the meeting, said while the PDP has the issue of power rotation to either the West or Central Senatorial District of the state in 2019 as fundamental, he urged electorates to be careful of an arrangement that ceeds power to an individual, all in an effort to please political godfather who has expansionist tendencies as not democratic.

The Deputy Governor said the state is very hopeful that the expected bail out funds from the federal government would be released soon, said the state has since gotten approval in principle for the sum of N50.9billion to enable the payment of salaries owed Teachers and workers in the local Government Areas.

The N50.9billion Awoniyi pointed out is arrears of salaries calculated from 2011 till August 2015 as salaries to Teachers and Council workers amounting to N45billion, said the State Government component of the bail out funds is N5.9billion, to cover for outstanding of salaries borrowed to pay workers in the State Civil Service.

Awoniyi disclosed that unlike other states that are heavily indebted to commercial banks, Kogi State he explained is only indebted to the tune of N1billion to banks which thus enables it to be able to draw the sum of N50.9billion as its share of the bail out funds.

He disclosed that the N1billion indebtedness by the State was money paid as counterpart funds by the State Universal Basic Education Board, said the under Capt Wada’s prudent management of resources has made the state not to be indebted to banks, a feat that places the state in a good financial standing to assess the N50.9bail out.

Awoniyi described the forthcoming Kogi Governorship election as a defining moment to secure the future and progress of the state, appealed to members of the party from Yagba Federal Constituency, to operate an inclusive campaign approach towards reaching out to people who are not members of the party so as to ensure an overwhelming victory for the PDP in the governorship election.

In a remarks, leader of the Party in Yagba Federal Constituency, Chief Samuel Akande, former Deputy Governor, said the constituency has resolved to vote overwhelmingly for Capt. Idris Wada in the forth coming election, disclosed that the meeting was to appraise challenges and deploy strategies that will give the party a landslide victory in the governorship election.

In there separate speeches, Hon Hassan Salawu, former state chairman of the PDP, Chief Ayedun, Chief Mike Oludoyi and Reinde Asagun, all pledge the renewed commitment of members of the party from there respective local government areas that make up the federal constituency towards delivering Capt Wada in the governorship election.
