In what looks like a lone voice on the Floor of the House  yesterday, Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam said there was no need to pass a vote of confidence on the Governor now because it is ill-timed.
Rt. Hon. Imam made his position known while contributing to the Motion on Matters of Urgent Public Importance to pass a vote of confidence on the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello and His Deputy, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Achuba for outstanding performance within first two years in office moved by the Majority Leader of the House who is the Member representing Ajaokuta State Constituency, Hon. Bello Hassan Abdullahi.
The member representing Lokoja I State Constituency in the 6th Kogi State House of Assembly said, even though the Governor may be trying his best and working hard to meet the aspiration of the people, governance, according to him, is service to the people.
The former Speaker of the House said  it is not out of place to commend the Governor, if indeed, he has performed, but doing that under a Motion of Matter of Urgent Public Importance is unnecessary and should rather come as a substantive Motion because there is nothing urgent about it.
He further said that as a Governor who has a four year mandate, and have only spent half of his term, it will be insensitive of them as representatives of the people to rate him on what he has achieved now, after all, he said, they can wait till when the governor has spent three years in office or even when it is six months to the end of his tenure saying “doing that now is ill-timed, self-seeking, self serving and insensitive”.
Several members spoke glowingly of the governor’s numerous achievement in two years.
When the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kolawole Mathew put the question, the members overwhelmingly supported the Motion except Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam of Lokoja I State Constituency (who said nay). The ayes therefore, had it.
The prayers sought for by the mover of the motion are; that the House pass a vote of confidence on the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello, that a letter of commendation be written and delivered to  Government House, Lokoja expressing the satisfaction of the Kogi State House of Assembly with His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and his New Direction Administration, and that the said letter of commendation should strongly urge the Governor of Kogi State to continue his good work undeterred by detractors or obstacles, whosoever or whatsoever they may be.
