The management of Kogi United football club has frowned at the peaceful protest embarked upon by players of the club in Lokoja on Thursday to press home demands for the release of their accumulated sign on fees.

Chairman of the club, Mallam Abdul Sule, in a statement issued on Saturday said the players should have given him the opportunity as the club’s chairman and link between them and the government to explore every available diplomatic means to resolve all issues relating to their welfare.

Sule noted that he had counseled the players to exercise patience as every diplomatic means is been explored to find solution to the issue.

The club chirman said he has been working round the clock to ensure that every issue of concern in the club is resolved amicably.

He said before travelling to Abakaliki for the Nigeria National League emergency congress last week, he had drawn the attention of the Commissioner for Youth and Sports and some top government functionaries to the lingering issue of players sign-on fees which has been causing pockets of unrest amongst them.

“The commissioner visited the team and advised them to be calm that all available means to resolve the issue will be deployed. Some notable figures in the government also lend their voices advising and encouraging the players to be civil that their issue receive due attention,” he said.

The ex-international turn football administrator said he was shocked to hear that his advise, plea and that of the Commissioner fell on deaf ears as the boys went on to stage a protest right in front of Government House.

He advised the players to always explore diplomatic means to press home their demands instead of staging protests as such are capable of been hijacked by hoodlums thereby discrediting a genuine and legitimate cause.
