Allegations of diversion of N10 billion by Senator representing Kogi East, Atai Aidoko Ali, has been described baseless and unfounded.
In a statement released by executive members of People Democratic Party (PDP) in Ugbamaka Igah, the ancestral home of Aidoko, the senator’s kinsmen condemned the reports accusing the lawmaker of constituency project fund running into billions of Naira.
The statement was jointly signed by the Igah Ward 4 party executives chaired by Micheal Igomu, ‎James Alaji, Secretary; Isah Idakwo, youth leader and Hajiya Hadiza Okewu, women leader. The denied reports alleging lack of social and infrastructural development in the area.
The ward executives stated that efforts were made on several occasions to provide modern boreholes, construction of clinic and provision of light from the Onicha Igo axis to the entire ward by the state government.
‎The ward PDP leaders stated that at no time did the senator attempted, contemplated or diverted such a colossal amount of money meant for the development of his immediate communities and the entire people of Kogi East.
The release explained that the consistent delay in the provision of boreholes was as a result of the terrain and soil texture of the area that had defied efforts by the Senator over the years to meet the desire of the people. However, the ongoing construction of solar, motorised boreholes is meant to address the plight of the people across Kogi East.
“The senator has built schools and clinics in the ward and across Kogi East. He has made frantic efforts to connect the area with stable electricity supply from the Onitcha Igo end rather than the epileptic Oturkpo axis feeding the local government headquarters at Okpo. The effort is to connect the neighbouring areas of Ogugu, Ikem, Ofante, Iga Ikeje to the national grid.
“The allegations of diversion of funds is an afterthought. A ploy to instigate the people against the progressive senator. It is counter-productive. The allegations should be directed at Kogi state government. holding it accountable for the prevailing low poverty among our people in the last two years owing to sheer refusal to meet its obligations of payment of salaries to workers and pensioners,” the release reads.
The ward leaders ‎pledged unalloyed support to Senator Aidoko, promising to support his future aspirations to top political positions so as to attract more dividends of democracy to the people of the area and Kogi East.
