Kogi State Government says promotion of primary School teachers by 2015 will be based on computer literacy.

Similarly, the government says it will continue to push basic education up on its agenda even as it promise a total transformation to the Education Sector.

Capt Idris Wada, Kogi State Governor, stated this when he commissioned the Nigerian Union of Teachers House in Lokoja and the flag off of teachers ICT empowerment scheme.

The Governor described education as the engine of growth for the socio economic development of any nation, said as part of its transformation agenda  it has given approval for the computer training of all primary school teachers.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy Yomi Awoniyi, said Good Governance,Agriculture, Human Capital Development and Infrastructure along side education which are areas of emphasis by the present administration will be accorded greater attention.

The on going verification of teachers Wada explained will culminate into the payment of the 18% minimum wage to qualified teachers in the state disclosed that teachers welfare is top most in the agenda of the present administration.

Capt Wada assured that no stone will be left unturned in responding to teachers welfare as a poorly motivated teacher he noted cannot give his best.  The State Governor commended the understanding shown in the negotiation for the new minimum wage by teachers, commended the NUT leadership for their commitment to welfare of its members.

In his address, Comrade Alhaji Sani Mohammed Amin, State Chairman NUT, called for the improvement of the working environment of teachers and the implementation of the 18% minimum wage to teachers in the state.

The State NUT Chairman commended the state Governor for the ten percent approval subsidy granted on the cost of laptop computers for teachers adding that it will enhance and impact positively the educational attainment of primary school teachers.

Also speaking, the representative of the National President of NUT, Olu Abiala, urged the state government not to reneged on its promise for enhance welfare for teachers lauded the commitment of the teachers in embarking on screening exercise to ascertain the strength of the teaching workforce in the state.

The National President commended the bold steps of building the teachers house adding that the office accommodation will enhance the productivity of teachers in the state.

In her speech, Mrs Modupe Jemibewon, said the ICT training will help in the educational development of the teachers and pupils adding that the world has become a global village and the state cannot be left out, commended the bold steps so far taken by the Wada administration in repositioning the educational sector of the state.
