The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today announced that governorship elections will hold in Kogi State on 3rd December 2011.

The announcement, which run contrary to the March 2012 date given by INEC sources was made known to pressmen today by INEC National Officers in Abuja.

With the announcement political activities are expected to increase immediately in Kogi State.

The leading opposition party, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Kogi State will have a lot to contend with particularly in the areas of picking her candidate for the December elections though most observers believe  Prince Abubakar Audu will fly the flag of the party.

The ruling party will also have her share of controversies. A cross section of PDP members in Kogi State believe the last governorship primaries that produced Alhaji Jubrin Isah Echocho will be re-conducted since elections did not hold in April as expected but signals from the state chapter of the party suggests the status quo will remain.

The December 2011 governorship elections in Kogi State will surely be an interesting one. We’ll keep you posted.
