The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kogi State Council, has disagreed with the position of the Federal Government over the completion of work on the dualisation of the Lokoja-Abuja road.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the state chairman of the union, Alhaji Ali Atabor and the secretary, Alhaji Adeiza Momoh Jimoh.

According, to the union, the two-year period for the completion of the dualisation of the road only showed that government was not in anyway pained by the daily loss of lives and property on the road.

The council, which frowned on the poor condition of the road, lamented government’s insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians plying the road which had become a source of concern.

The council noted that the damaged spots were common features on the ever-busy Koton-Karfe-Abuja road, yet the Federal Government had continued to turn blind eyes to these death traps.

The council expressed concern that even in a democratic set-up the people’s representatives who also plied the same road had totally failed to use their positions to canvass for even palliative measures to be taken on those roads.

The state NUJ, therefore, urged the Kogi State government and all the Federal lawmakers from the state to quickly mobilise themselves to mount pressure on the appropriate authority to forestall further carnage on the road, just as they appealed to motorists to exercise caution in view of the deplorable condition of the road.
