Kogi House of Assembly Majority Leader, Alhaji Yakubu Yunusa, has called for full financial autonomy for state legislative assemblies to enable them play their constitutional roles effectively.

The Majority Leader who made the call at the weekend in Lokoja said such autonomy would bring transparent and accountable governance through effective checks and balances.

According to him, the legislature in addition to its constitutional role of laws making  is also saddled with  oversight functions on other arms of government.

Yunusa pointed out that the forum of assembly speakers in the country had at their last meeting  taken a position to ensure financial autonomy of the legislature, saying the legislature was tired of begging the executive for funds.

He called on Governor Idris Wada to quickly assent to the Assembly Service Commission and Self-Accounting Status bills passed by the House which he said are awaiting his assent.
