Ahead of the May 4, 2013 local government election in Kogi State, a socio-political group, Mosum Democratic Congress, MDC, in Bassa Local Government Area of the state has said that there was no confusion in the zoning arrangement of political offices in the area as claimed by some mischief makers.

In a statement signed by the President of the group, Muhammed Katanga, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Lokoja yesterday, the group said the claim that Bassa- Nge, which is one of the three districts, was maginalised was far from the truth.

He explained that since the creation of the council area in 1976, Bassa-Nge and Bassa-Kwomu have produced nine council chairmen each, while Egbira- Mosum has produced only three and that was why the leaders agreed to zone the chairmanship slot to the district.

Katanga said the leaders of Bassa local government have always ensured equitable distribution of political offices and the resources of the council, adding that this arrangement was responsible for the peaceful co-existence of the people. “The truth of the matter is that Bassa Local Government comprises of three districts – Bassa-Nge, Bassa- Kwomu and Egbira-Mosum.

The leaders try to distribute resources as equitably as possible, which is responsible for the peace noticed among us,” he noted. Katanga added that the same arrangement was maintained by the people in the present dispensation, noting that those who are kicking against it were speaking from an uninformed position.
