…Is It True Kogi Govt Spent N750m on Gov Bello’s Birthday Bash?

The Labour Unions in Kogi State Councils  comprising of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Public Service Joint Negotiating Council (PSJNC) have accused Governor Yahaya Bello of lodging the N20bn bailout received from the Central Bank in a fixed deposit account till July 6, 2016.

The Labour Movements who made this allegation in its BULLETIN No. 7 in Lokoja on Wednesday, said it was wrong for the governor to lodge the fund in a fixed account since it was purposely meant to pay backlog of workers’ salaries and pensions.

The Organized Labour said the governor had clearly proved to everybody that he did not care about the suffering of the workers who had not been paid for nine months.

The Bulletin claimed that the stringent conditions the governor gave the workers to meet before paying their salary arrears further proved the Movements allegation that Bello had fixed the bailout fund for profit.

The statement read, “Our young governor, even in the face of severe hunger on his workers has gone on spending spree. The first trench of N20bn bailout which was accessed on your behalf by the state government, instead of the money hitting your accounts, it was lodged in a fixed deposit account by some officials of the Yahaya Bello administration till 6th July, 2016. Is this what the money was meant for?

“We ask again; is it true that the state government lavished a whopping sum of N500 million on the 41st birthday of Yahaya Bello on Saturday 18th June, 2016?

“Is it true that he paid the Lagos based musician the sum of N250 million?. Is it also true that BELLO spend N48 million weekly to fuel official vehicles?’

The Labour movements called on President Mohammadu Buhari to prevail on the governor to pay the workers and pensioners, which, they said, were the motive behind granting the state the loan.

The union said the fresh screening exercise the state government ordered was a time wasting tactic to buy time for the transaction to become mature in the bank.
