INEC Designs Measure For Peaceful Elections in Kogi State

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has again reiterated its resolve to conduct free, fair, credible and acceptable elections in Kogi State with introductions of smart card readers and other strategies to better the poll.

Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kogi State, Mallam Hussaini Halilu Pai who disclosed this at a press briefing in Lokoja noted that the smart card readers would assist in verification of Permanent Voters Card, PVC, authenticate the voters and also serve as counter for accreditation process.

Mallam Halilu Pai added that INEC has established a Registration Area Centers, RAC which will be closer to polling units to encourage early exercise of the polls.

“As part of preparation for the voting exercise in February, we have taken delivery of 18,000 stamp pads, we have identified a suitable training venues for our ad-hoc staffs, we are embarking on a voters education programs with critical stakeholders, we are also making use of practicable and effective technology with installation of wireless internet services, courtesy calls have been undertaken to relevant organizations and we are interacting with security agencies that are of federal establishment,” said Pai.

The REC who oversee the Governorship election in Ekiti State in 2014 maintained that the introduction of PVC was to make the poll more transparent and credible just as he disclosed that INEC would work with officials of federal institutions in Kogi State to achieve a successful exercise.

While charging the media to act according to ethics of their profession during elections and avoid sensationalism, Mallam Halilu Pai promised that the INEC would continue to collaborate with the press for an incredible exercise.
