The Kogi East Senatorial aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. John Ibrahim Ocheje has expressed genuine concern over the flooding disasters across some parts Igala/Bassa land in Kogi East senatorial district.
The senatorial aspirant has been responding to the situation across some of the affected communities by the provisions of relief materials and logistics for relocation to their respective temporary places of residence until the condition return back to normalcy.
While responding to the urgency of the needs of the victims of the floods in some parts of Ibaji Local Government Area, the hometown of the senatorial aspirant, where the situation seems to be high in magnitude, the Campaign Team of Engr. John Ibrahim Ocheje for Senate said that in addition to knowledge of the situation which their aspirant is well acquainted with, the team was inundated with requests which have been given utmost attention.
According to one of the assisted victims, he thanked the senatorial aspirant for remaining truly committed to their welfare noting that it was not his first time of identifying with them in such horrible situation.
He remarked that his generosity over the years to them has been their major source of strength while hoping for translation of good governance through him one day, perhaps in 2019.
Ageli Enyo, one of the members of the Campaign Team noted in agreement with the submissions of the victims that
their aspirant has been responding to the situation with all manner of genuineness like he has done in the pasts. He disclosed that from the provisions of bags of rice, beds and mosquito nets to the victims in their temporary places of residence during the 2012 flood disaster is evident of the assertion of his true humanity.
According to him, “Engr. John Ibrahim’s identification with the flood victims in the past years speaks for him and awarded him for his feelings not accidental for the purpose of garnering supports for the 2019 senatorial elections of Kogi East.
He noted that no flooding year passes in the life of Ibaji community without the support of the senatorial aspirant
arguing that that is the reason why his people are proud to call him their own. He noted further that “unlike the Biblical saying that a prophet has honour except in his home, John Ibrahim’s is an exception to this saying. Perhaps it’s because of his understanding of the fact that charity begins at home.”
The Kogi East Senatorial aspirant himself confessed he was more humbled by the people’s recollections of his past deeds on learning from their testimonies. He promised to intensify efforts in assisting the people.
He equally reacted to the effects that bad leadership and misrepresentations of Kogi east have been responsible for the people’s continuous sufferings.
In his words, “the people of Ibaji are in urgent need of flood control and if necessary the government assistance to permanently relocate them.
He however said that “these needs of the people have not actually been taken into consideration by the government and our representatives over the years.”
He promised that if given support to emerge the PDP’s senatorial candidate and subsequently elected as the Senator of Kogi East, he will partner with all relevant authorities to meet with the needs of every community with flooding challenges in Kogi State.
He encouraged and prayed for the safety of lives and properties of the affected communities by the disastrous floods while remarking that he would continue to give all necessary supports to victims of the flood within the limit of his capacity.
