Help! Nigeria is Under Siege

Just this morning I got a tragic news of the sudden demise of my paternal uncle, Honourable Adebayo Solomon who was killed on Saturday, May 1 2021, by some suspected Fulani herdsmen.

He was said to be travelling from Ilorin to Kabba when his vehicle was reportedly shot at Eruku village a few kilometres to Egbe (the border town between Kwara and Kogi) by these criminal elements.

According to reliable sources, the late commissioner (my paternal uncle) was travelling with the Chairman of Yagba East Local Council, Pius Kolawole who has now been kidnapped alongside some others.

This recent incident is far way too many to what our brothers in the Southeast and Northwest, among other regions are also facing under these blood thirsty men with little or no action by the authorities concerned to nip the bud when the iron is still hot. What is government without security of lives and properties?

We can’t pretend that all is well when the country is seriously under the siege of these killer herdsmen parading as gunmen. It’s beyond playing political gimmicks or politicising the security issues bedevilling us in the country. We must be passionate and pragmatic with approach if we must achieve tranquility and in turn, protect the lives of our loved ones.

This is not time for blaming games. It’s our collective responsibility to rescue our land from these criminals.

We must act now!

– Adebayo Isaac, a concerned Nigerian.
