CPI takes GOTV, Stop-VAWIP Campaign to Maigari of Lokoja, SDP

Challenged Parenthood Initiative, CPI a non-governmental organization has continue to further enlightened the people in the grassroots on the need to encourage women to take active participation in politics and electoral process.

The NGO led by its Executive Director, Mrs Eunice Abimbola Agbogun was at the palace of Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Muhammed Kabir Maikarfi III on Monday to further sensitize the traditional institution on the need to support in eradicating Violence Against Women in Politics, tagged Stop-VAWIP.

She said her organization’s major aims was to mitigate violence against women during elections and encourage them to actively participate in politics which brought about their other campaign called Go Out The Vote, GOTV.

Mrs Agbogun said sexual, physical, physiological, economic, threat and coercion as well as harmful traditional practices are major forms of violence denying women to take part in political engagements in the state.

She however solicited the Maigari’s support on taking the campaign to the targeted audience in the grassroots so as to have more votes from women during elections.

The Maigari of Lokoja who spoke through Sarkin Sango District Head. Alhaji Ahmed Bala commended the NGO on the advocacy just as he promised to assist taking the campaign and awareness to the people in the area.

Present at the visit to the Maigari Palace were Alhaji Idris Abdulkadir, District Head, Ward A, Alhaji Mohammed Jimoh, District Head of Meme Bridge and Alhaji Musa Adamu of Lokongoma District.

The CPI also took the advocacy to the Social Democratic Party, SDP office in Lokoja and was received by the executives led by the chairman, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah.

Alhahi Atimah said the campaign was timely and important as his party was the only party fielding a woman as a flag bearer for the November 16 Governorship Election in the state.

He said SDP which is a gender friendly party would give optimum support for the campaign.

The Challenged Parenthood Initiative, CPI was established in 2013 with the sole aim of encouraging women.
