Human rights activist from Kogi State, Comrade Austin Okai has handed down 48 hours ultimatum to the Kogi State Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja to withdraw allegations levelled against him.

Okai made this known while speaking with our reporter in Lokoja on Sunday.

He vowed to institute a legal action against Onoja if the latter fail to withdraw allegations bordering on impersonation against him.

“I will never stoop so low and impersonate someone whose name is not bigger than mine in Kogi political terrain. Edward Onoja is a chronic noise maker and I am ready lock horn with him on this defamatory allegations.

“For over four years, he has done everything to kill me and destroy my hard earned reputation. Just like devil, he will not give up easily and here is another attempt from a frustrated character.

“It is obvious the position of Deputy Governor is still not helping his quest for more power and whoever is being viewed as threat to his plot to conquer entire Igala Kingdom is marked. I am aware of this and I am also aware that my name is on the list of his next victims to be assassinated in Anyigba or somewhere else around Kogi state or Abuja. I am also aware that part of his plans is to come to media and accuse me of what I know nothing about.

“By the way, who is Edward Onoja? What good name does he have that I will impersonate him? His name is tantamount to evil, looting and other vices,” he said.

Okai said though he is aware of the immunity the Deputy Governor currently enjoys, he insisted on going to court at the expiration of the 48 hours ultimatum.

“I am ready to institute a legal case against the careless Deputy Governor, which he will definitely face after the expiration of the immunity that is currently shielding him.

“The behavior of Edward Onoja is an abuse of the immunity clause that shields executives from prosecution. The time has come for the National Assembly to revisit this clause, as it has become a shield for criminal activities of those that enjoying it.

“Edward Onoja may have immunity, that I know, but the whole world will hear me and you this time. When Austin Anibe Utene raised an alarm of Onoja’s plot to get me eliminated, Amade Edime called me and talk to me on why I shouldn’t take that serious. I heeded to his plea, but today, Onoja has started moving towards that perilous path.

“It’s obvious the Deputy Governor is unaware of the responsibilities and expectations attached to his office, hence his reckless utterance on social media like a common tout. I am aware he is now a victim of dwindling personality.”
