1 Killed, 12 Houses Razed in Ankpa Communities

A farmer was killed and 12 houses razed at the weekend following a clash between some members of a vigilante group and locals at Ejinya Abakpa and Ejinya Eheche communities in Ankpa local government area of Kogi State.
A witness told Daily Trust that trouble began Thursday night when a man identified as Noah Ado was stopped by members of a vigilante group in the area only for him run to his room and bring out a double barrel gun.
The witness said that in an effort by men of the vigilante to disarm him, he fired and a farmer, one Augustine Gabriel, who was passing by and was hit in the thigh, died on the way to hospital.
In response, angry youths from the community of the deceased mobilized to the Ejinya Eheche village where the incident happened and razed about 12 houses. Inhabitants of Ejinya Eheche had since fled the community following the incident.
Spokesman of the  Kogi  Police Command William Aya confirmed the incident, adding that policemen had been drafted to restore normalcy.
