Once again, the Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party National Youth Frontier (PDPNYF) has been constrained to caution the youth of Kogi State and Nigeria at large. We are disturbed that while the youth in climes elsewhere are eager and desirous of effectively partnering government at all levels towards ensuring a more effective system of governance, a couple of fifth columnists on the payroll of unknown persons are only interested in acting the scripts of those paymasters even if they get consumed in the process.

As a vibrant youth group, we are aware that over time, the social media and its tools like facebook and twitter have emerged very potent weapons of change hence the massive influx towards them but we are genuinely concerned that while the positive aspect of this technological advancement remains untapped, a huge number of persons, mainly youth are deploying these tools to the detriment of the society they live in.

A case that readily comes to mind is that of Samuel Obochi who recently took to facebook with a dubious intent to create unnecessary tension in Kogi State and Nigeria at large. On this platform, Samuel indeed issued libelous statements indicating that His Excellency, Capt. Idris Wada whom he claimed had a history of mental illness had finally gone mad and is even been kept in solitary confinement in Government House, Lokoja. While he would pass a responsible citizen of Kogi State and Nigeria, his real intentions were soon unraveled when fate led him to demand that the sum of One Million Naira Only be paid to him monthly by the Kogi State Government to “keep quiet”. Funny as this seems, the reality remains that Citizen Samuel is classic example of how not to use the social media.

It is on this premise that we consider it highly necessary to caution the youth of Nigeria especially those in our domain to shun every form of nefarious activity that seem to be the rave of the moment. We also consider it important to challenge the youth of Nigeria to familiarize themselves with the exact contents of the Freedom of Information Act as by our estimation, it will cause them to know that the existence of such a vital law should not be taken as license to spread falsehood, lies and negative propaganda especially as they relate to a productive and exceptional government as the one led by His Excellency, Capt. Idris Wada, executive governor of Kogi State.

On a note of finality, we hereby deem it essential to reveal that Kogi State under the leadership of His Excellency, Capt. Idris Wada can be conveniently ranked in the category of states wherein the opposition has been allowed to operate unhindered. Perhaps, this is a trait our amiable governor shares with His Excellency, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan under whose leadership the opposition and their associates in the media have been allowed to operate uncensored.

As the 2015 general elections approach, it is expected that fifth columnists will be on rampage seeking to recruit the youth for their dirty jobs. We therefore advise their targets to consider and put Nigeria first in their thoughts as we encourage them to reject the filthy lucre they will be offered and remain patriotic citizens of Nigeria. The future belongs to the youth.

Signed:

Kogi State Coordinator,

Peoples’ Democratic Party National Youth frontier (PDPNYF)
