The management of First City Monument Bank, FCMB, has dragged Kogi State government to court over an alleged contractual defiance on the payment of workers salaries.

The bank had approached a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja challenging  the state governments decision to  restrict the disbursement of workers salaries to two banks.

Speaking with journalists in his office shortly after the courts proceeding, counsel to FCMB,  Yemi Mohammed said the bank had decided to approach the court to seek redress over the state governments decision to renege  an agreement with the bank since 2012.

According to him, the bank had an agreement with some workers in all tiers of government in the state for the extension of loan facilities to those who domicile their salary accounts with them.

He explained that the extension of those facilities was tied to state government’s attestation to the status of the staff as bonafide staff.

“The bank also received assurance that workers salaries will be domiciled with the bank.

In February, the state government approached the bank for re- negotiation of the repayment schedule earlier agreed with workers due to delay in salaries payments.

The bank was however shocked when the state government  reneged and appoint only two banks for the disbursement of the salaries when the Bailout funds was released.

The case which was mentioned yesterday in court was adjourned at the request of counsel to FCMB, Mohammed.

With no objection from the defense  counsel, the presiding judge, Justice Phoebe Ayua  fixed Friday 8th July for hearing of the motion.
