A former State Security Service (SSS) chief, Mr. Williams Toyin Akanle, has said that he joined the race for the Kogi West senatorial district ticket in order to attract development to the area.

Addressing journalists in Lokoja,  yesterday, Akanle said going by his wealth of experience, he was  convinced that he could bring the needed change in the senatorial district.

He said the issue of caucus group in the political parties has been responsible for not picking the right candidate, calling on politicians to work for the overall interest of Nigeria.

“All said and done, mine is to see how well I can bring to bear on the development for the people of Kogi West. Our influence arises from the people, but again, I think when the chips are down, we go to the people, and I want to say that at this point in time we need a change in Kogi West Senatorial District,” he said.

Though Akanle did not disclose the political platform he would contest on, he commended the National Assembly for approving independent candidacy in the ongoing constitution amendment.
