Wada Inherited and Completed 36 Roads, Initiates New Ones

The present administration, under Capt Idris Wada, has since its assumption of office placed emphasis on the repairs and construction of roads.

The Chief Press Secretary to Kogi State Deputy Governor, Abu Michael, made this known while reacting to comments made on the state of roads in Lokoja, as published in a National Daily.

Abu Michael, disclosed that the present administration aside inheriting and completing 36 roads which were under construction from its predecessor, also began the construction of new ones.

The media aide disclosed that until the peak of the rains this year, which could not allow for maintenance of the roads in some parts of the State capital by Kogi State Road Maintenance Agency, the bulk of work carried out by the present administration on road repairs and construction he stated was in Lokoja,the state capital.

Abu described the establishment of KOGROMA by Capt Wada as a measure to ensure pothole free roads in the state which he noted had been achieved until the peak of this year’s rains which he added affected the maintenance work that opened up some failed portions of the roads.

According to Abu, the recent award of the reconstruction and expansion of the road from welcome to Lokoja, through the Army Barracks, Lokongoma, passing through Ganaja junction to mobil round – about and to the International Market, which was awarded to CGC Construction Company would take care of the concerned roads mentioned in the report.

Abu added that Lokoja the State capital, with the on-going construction of all roads in the New layout area, Lord Lugard road, Karaworo, Angwan kura and some other roads in the traditional settlements of Lokoja, is the greatest beneficiary of the Capt Idris Wada administration in terms of road construction, lamented the alleged neglect and backwardness of Lokoja the State capital, as stated in the report by the writer when a large chunk of resources by the present and past administration of the State had always been spent on the infrastructural development of the state capital.

While describing the present administration of Capt Idris Wada as one that is sensitive to the plight of the people, Abu called for patience from the people, assuring that after the rains which are now at its peak, the commencement of work from welcome to Lokoja to International Market, will correct the noticed failures on the mentioned road.

Abu listed the on-going construction work on some township roads in Koton-karfe, Iyara, Kabba, Mopa, Idah, Dekina, Lokoja as Capt Wada’s commitment to improving the state of roads in the State.

While noting that the 16km Otokiti – Ganaja bye pass, another landmark of Wada’s administration in road construction will help open up Lokoja and its environs, Abu however commended the writer for his kind words on the State Government’s purchase of some vehicles for the Lokoja City Bus Service, and subsidized by the Wada’s administration to run as mass transit buses in the State capital as commendable, called for constructive criticism that will help the state in moving forward.
