MDGs: Kogi Begins Distribution of Fertilizers to Rural Women

The Kogi State Government has reiterated its commitment to the eradication of poverty and hunger in the State.

Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada gave the assurance at the flag-off ceremony of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) branded fertilizers distribution to Rural Women in the State.

Capt Wada disclosed that for a State that is richly endowed with natural resources, the State Government is committed to harnessing these potentials through building the capacity of farmers that will enable it realize the objectives of food sufficiency for its citizens.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, said it has invested financial resources towards the growth of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Agro Allied Businesses in the State towards improving the lives of rural dwellers.

Towards its poverty alleviation measures, the present administration, Capt Wada explained has paid all its counter parts funds on MDGs, towards ensuring that it provides water, build primary schools and health centers in rural areas, these he added is geared towards improving the living standard of rural dwellers.

The Governor described the role of women in the family and the nation as vital, assured of his administrations efforts geared towards improving their capacity.

In her remarks, Hajia Halimat Wada, wife of the Kogi State Governor, commended the initiative of Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of the President Goodluck Jonathan, especially in her un tiring efforts at empowering women.

Hajia Halimat Wada, equally commended the present administration in the State for placing women in an advantage position through its Agriculture transformation agenda.

Hajia Halimat, then urged women to massively support President Goodluck Jonathan, and the PDP in 2015 General elections, disclosing that the administration has since its inception given women a pride of place in the scheme of things at all levels in the country.

Hajia Halimat urged the women to make good use of the fertilizer to improve their farming yield and to be self reliant, disclosing that it is a vital ingredient that sustains farming.

Also speaking, Alh Yunusa Nasiru, Chief of Staff to the State Governor, said the cardinal goals of the present administration in the state is to reduce extreme poverty and hunger, commended the efforts of government through its various approach aimed at encouraging agro businesses by granting direct loans and supply of fertilizers to women farmers.

In a welcome address, Alh Haliru Abdul, Special Adviser to the governor on MDG’s, disclosed that the present administration in the state has remained committed to prompt payment of its counter parts fund and has equally intervened in the provision of health care, portable water supply and construction of schools to rural areas across the state.

Highlights of the occasion was the presentation of goodwill messages by the Commissioners of Women Affairs and that of Agriculture, who all commended the efforts of the present administration targeted at wealth creation and poverty alleviation as well as improving child health and maternal mortality.

The governor along side his wife distributed the fertilizers to women farmers at the occasion with Odu, Ajaokuta and Lokoja as points of distribution for the three senatorial districts of the state.
