Pastor John Adeoti of the Overcome’s Light Chapel International, Kogi, has urged political parties in the state to maintain the peace before, during and after the forthcoming governorship election.

Adeoti gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lokoja.

The cleric also called on politicians and candidates in the November 21 governorship election, as well as their supporters to shun hate speeches during electioneering campaigns.

According to him, hate speeches can trigger violence.

“When there is peace and harmony the state will experience development and there will be safety of lives and property.

“We must be our brothers’ keepers and be at peace with one another irrespective of our political differences.

“Politicians must avoid actions that can jeopardise the peace of the state before, during and after the governorship election,’’ Adeoti said.

He also appealed to the youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of violence, saying there should be no reason whatsoever to foment trouble.

The pastor stressed that no aspirant’s ambition was worth dying for.

Adeoti prayed that the peace of God should reign in the State and the entire nation; before, during and after the election.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to be impartial and create a level playing ground for all parties and candidates.
