The 25th anniversary celebration of the creation of Kogi state that kicked off few days ago is another conduit pipe to drain the resources of the state by Governor Yahaya Bello and his cronies.
Let the governor his paid vuvuzelas tell us the amount budgeted for the anniversary jamboree. Without an iota of doubt, the celebration is a fraud in disguise.
What will gladden our hearts is that the spate of kidnapping, that are becoming a recurring decimal, are stopped. We will all be glad to celebrate if such feats are recorded by the present administration.
That the state government workers are dying of hunger due to non-payment of salaries is a thing if concern. That pensioners are dying daily, putting us in a mourning mood, and legally employed workers are laid off without reasonable reasons is a bad development.
It is when we have people in Kogi state who are still alive, well taken care of and safe that we would celebrate.
Kogi 25 years anniversary is a fraud in disguise. That we don’t know how much is budgeted for this anniversary makes the entire process fraud.
Hungry men don’t celebrate. The celebration is unfortunate, uncalled for, unthinkable and unnecessary, considering the facts that thousands of the Kogites go to bed with empty stomach and some of them sleep with only one eye closed because of the high level of insecurity in the state.
Anniversary at this time is another pointer that Yahaya Bello and his team truly don’t give a damn.
For a government that has virtually been unable to kick-start the activities of governance in the state to spend billions on anniversary is a misplaced priority and an opportunity to waste resources and bless themselves.
That Bello and his team are unable to disclose how much is budgeted for this anniversary is questionable and that the state is unable to settle workers and pensioners despite huge inflow of the cash into the state under him makes the anniversary a mere laughing stock. We can’t celebrate when our people are crying of hunger and some are still in the kidnappers den.
The anniversary razzmatazz at this trying period of our state is diversionary; it is another jamboree; it is another waste of the state wealth and resources. All of us must remain vigilant, more than ever. The Kogi State governor is unable to even tell good people of Kogi state how much is earmarked or budgeted for this anniversary is another grey area and must be questioned.
The funds earmarked for the anniversary should have been spent on security, health, education and infrastructural development and pay the workers and pensioners suffering in the state.
The fact that Bello only fast-tracked activities that is business-related to himself and his cronies is a bad signs. Lugard House has been tuned to relaxation center while ordinary Kogites are languishing in poverty, anguish and penury as the state is in shambles due to lackluster attitude of Bello and his clueless administration.
The state is going backward daily and the citizens are living in a mourning mood. Kogi 25 years anniversary jamboree is a fraud, merely designed to bless some people pockets.
