Kogi Police to Deploy 5,119 Officers for Supplementary Elections

The Kogi State Command of the Nigerian Police has disclosed that it will deploy 5,119 officers to take charge of strategic positions during the April 25th, 2015 supplementary elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced rescheduling of the supplementary election in Kogi State earlier billed for May 2nd to the new date.

The Commission also announced that it would conduct supplementary election in 141 polling units for the state constituencies and 34 polling units in Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency.

The Kogi State police commissioner, Samuel Ogunjemilusi, said his command is ready to provide adequate security where election will take place.

Ogunjemilusi, who spoke through Chief Superintendent Soji Idowu,? said the police will deploy 5,119 officers which will include conventional police, mobile force, rapid response team, special intervention ?unit, anti-terrorism unit and some reinforcement from Abuja.

He said the police would work with other security operatives to ensure free and fair elections.

It would be recalled that the security operatives had a difficult task combating hoodlums who laid siege on INEC officials, ad-hoc staff and electoral materials penultimate week in Anyigba, Iyale and Egume where violence and ballot box snatching took place, which led to the elections being cancelled in the affected areas.
