To enhance awareness of the disease among school pupils and students as a way to further check its spread, the Kogi State Ministry of Education has composed for schools an anthem on Ebola on the dangers of the virus.

It read in part: “Ebola Virus Disease, the deadliest in history, but we will push you out by taking precaution, by constant washing of hands with water and soap, and keeping environment clean; together we shall push you out.”

Commissioner for Education, Dr. Agnes Okai, disclosed this at the flag-off of the distribution of Ebola prevention materials to public and private schools in the state. The anthem, which is now being sung by students and pupils in all schools in the state, will promote good personal hygiene among school children.

It will also use them as active influencers to communicate government’s efforts at preventing the spread of the virus in the state. Addressing education stakeholders in Lokoja, Okai said the prevention materials, which include scan thermometers, plastic buckets with tap, liquid soap and protective gear, have been distributed to over 3,000 schools in the state.

It read in part: “Ebola Virus Disease, the deadliest in history, but we will push you out by taking precaution, by constant washing of hands with water and soap, and keeping environment clean; together we shall push you out.”

According to her, the items will be administered by over 7,000 emergency care-givers drawn from teaching and non-teaching staff in public and private schools in the state. She noted that children are among the vulnerable groups and must be taught good personal hygiene at all time within and outside the school environment.
