Mr. Sean Hoy, the Irish High Commissioner to Nigeria, has called on the Nigerian Government to exploit agriculture with the prospect to boost the country’s economy.

He made the call on Monday when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State in Government House, Lokoja.

The High Commissioner advised that the Government should look inwards to diversify her economy by investing more in agriculture as the income from it is more enduring.

Pointing to his home country where the economic stronghold is agriculture, he noted that it produces food ten times more than it can consume, he advised that Nigerians should not be carried away by the country’s oil wealth whose value is fast depreciating at the international market.

Hoy who used to be a farmer back in Ireland advised the Governor to use agriculture to fix Kogi State’s economy.

He also said that Nigeria should focus more of her energy in sustained agricultural programme to turn around her fortunes.

The Irish envoy said the earlier Nigeria diversified to agriculture, the better? for her rising unemployment rate. ?
He expressed satisfaction with the security situation in Kogi State that has remained peaceful for monitoring the forthcoming election.

Governor Wada in response said he has already focused his policies on agriculture in the state as the only sustainable venture for the future, adding that it has been a business for young school-leavers who have developed interest in it as a business venture.

He clarified that Government’s collaboration with political and religious leaders as well as the youth in the State is responsible for the peace and tranquility in Kogi. He also hoped for a continuous robust relationship with Ireland for socio-economic reasons.

According to him, the PDP is positive in all levels of the general elections in the state having canvassed for votes through all available media to sensitise the people on the need to obtain their PVCs.

Wada concluded by expressing disapproval to violence as he insisted that elective positions cannot be substituted for the blood of any Nigerian.
