Football: Defeat to Spotlight is Unfair – Kogi Utd Coach

Head Coach of Lokoja based Nigeria National League, NNL side, Kogi United FC, Fatai Osho has described his side’s 0-2 defeat to Spotlight FC in Katsina as unfair.

Osho said final result of the Week Nine encounter played on Saturday as Karkanda Stadium did not reflect the performance of his players having put a lot into the game.

Both sides produced a nerve wrecking moments to score in opening stages of the match but failed to utilized any as first half ended goaless.

The resumption into the second stanza saw Spotlight FC gaining bit of possession as they win numerous set pieces advantage.

They finally make it count with nine minutes into restart as Salishu Mukhtar capitalized on a cracked wall of Kogi United as his direct free kick beat goalkeeper Detan Ogundare.

The Wada Boys didn’t allow the goal to weigh them down as they put all they’ve got into fray and almost level but Imran Amodu – who has been a menace on Spotlight’s defense- had his 20 yard shot went an inch wide.

The boys Bashir Sadaoki employed delay tactics as they begin to fall like a pack of cards on a number of occasion to frustrate their guest who looked determined to salvage a point from the game.

But the delay proved a gain for Spotlight as they doubled their lead in the 85th minutes when substitute Usule Martins jumped above Chindo Babangida to head home the sealing goal.

Coach Osho who was left disappointed with the end results noted that his defenders gave away two free goals but believed no hope is still lost in their quest to beat the drop.

“Its most unfortunate, the score line didn’t reflect our performance today, we were so careless in defense, I mean we have to tidy up our defense, its unfair to have conceded those two goals, we have no business to do that, they are just pure give away points, begins Osho after the game.

The former Remo Stars and Supreme Court’s tactician continues as he expressed optimism on his side’s ability to get points on the road saying “We will look at our defense to make it more tidy, apart from that, we did excellently well today, but in as much, we keep on fighting, I believe we can still get points on the road,” he concluded.

His counterpart at Spotlight FC, Amiru Musa admitted that his side was lucky to have snatch the victory from the game adding that Kogi United really gave Spotlight FC a real fight.

“It was a good game, we are happy with victory today, it wasn’t an easy match at all, but we were lucky to win and we thank God for that. Kogi United really troubled us because they have a very good team with young players, you get this kind of days at times when you will be lucky to win even without playing better as you want,” Musa disclosed.

Kogi United will return home to prepare for their next game against Supreme Court FC on Saturday.
