Attah Igala U16 Boys Unity Cup: Ameh Oboni Hopeful on Talents Discovery

The Attah of Igala Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Michael Idakwo Ameh Oboni has described the ongoing maiden edition of the Attah Igala U16 boys Unity Cup in Idah as eventful and believes the competition will serve as platform in the discovery of talents for the future.

 

Oboni while defending the non-participation of four local government areas in the district noted that it would have been the interest of the absent teams to participate, which he blamed on the financial constraints ravaging various Local Government Council Areas in the state.

 

He further advised that the quality of competition could produce the best of talents and not number of teams involved in the annual tournament.

 

Meanwhile, the Attah Igala U16 Boys Unity Cup scheduled from April 21st – 27th kicked off in Idah with hosts dictating the pace in the round-rubbing tournament after gaining nine points from its three matches and has reach the finals with a game to spare.

 

In the second spot, Bassa has only managed three points in two games, while Igalamela and Dekina with point and goal deficit apiece are placed 3rd and 4th, then Ibaji without a point in two games rooted at 5th position.

 

Sports Secretary of the Idah Local Government Council, Enemali Ejeh Genesis has expressed high hopes that his players will help Idah to host and win the competition.

 

Ejeh also commended the organizers, Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria for ensuring great competition and fair play among participating team at the underway age-grade tournament.

 

According to the PRO, Kogi State Chapter of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, YSFON, two of the five participating teams which finishes in the top two places will be involved in the finals after tasting matches apiece on Sunday, April 27.

 

The five of nine local government areas represented at the championship are hosts, Idah, Igalamela/Odolu, Ibaji, Dekina and Bassa, while the absentees are Olamaboro, Ofu, Ankpa and Omala.
