Men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) serving in Kogi, Kwara and Ekiti states have been warned against hiding under the guise of official duty to commit rights violation.

The Assistant Inspector–General of Police in-charge of Zone 8, Mr Tijani Baba gave the warning in Lokoja on Wednesday while declaring open a three-day training programme for policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

He said that any policeman found culpable of rights abuse will have himself or herself to blame,  saying that Nigerians should be treated with respect and honour.

According to him, the retraining programme became necessary as a result of rising wave of violent crimes. He commended the Inspector-General of Police for rising up to the challenge.

Baba urged the participants to take the programme seriously as they will, in turn, be used to train others.

He expressed the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to partner with civil society to bring about a new order.

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Chafe was present at the event while his counterparts from Ekiti and Kwara were represented.
